AAU WELL-REPRESENTED IN FIRST NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

ORLANDO, Fla. (May 4, 2016) – The NCAA Women’s Beach Volleyball Committee recently announced the eight-team field for the inaugural National Collegiate Beach Volleyball Championship and the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) is well-represented.

Selected from 60 NCAA institutions sponsoring the sport of beach volleyball, 143 athletes – 113 of whom competed in AAU events as youth athletes – will have an opportunity to face-off in the NCAA’s 90th and newest national championship in Gulf Shores, Alabama this weekend. Among those athletes are four AAU Beach Volleyball Player of the Year winners – Skylar Caputo (2014), Abril Bustamante (2013), Zana Muno (2012) and Sara Hughes (2010).

The list also includes six AAU Beach Volleyball National Champions – Macy Jerger(2015), Madalyn Roh (2014), Gianna Guinasso (2013), Muno (2012), Alexa Strange(2009) and Hughes (2005, 2007, 2009, 2011) – and seven AAU Junior Olympic Games champions – Caputo (2014, 2015), Bustamante (2014, 2015), Megan McNamara (2012),Nicole McNamara (2012), Muno (2011) and Eva Torruella (2011).

The championship will be held Friday through Sunday, May 6-8. The event will be televised by Turner networks, with truTV providing live coverage on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7 from 3-6 p.m. The championship round will air on TBS on Sunday, May 8 at 2 p.m. Additional live streaming coverage of every court in each match of the tournament will be available on NCAA.com.
